Blogtober #SpooktoberStories

Hey guys, Hope you are all well, I'm back again with another horror movie that is based on true events, today's movie is called Winchester. Here I will share an overview of the story of this house thats made from the ghosts, or so they say, this movie was made in 2018 and classed as supernatural horror. As I have said in all the others I will not be showing photos to save peoples privacy and if you want to know more you can do your own research.

In 1906, the Winchester company hires Doctor Eric Price to stay at the house and assess Sarah, believing she is mentally unfit to remain in charge of the company. Eric is grieving from the death of his wife Ruby and is reliant on drugs. He arrives at the house and has a ghostly vision that he believes is a side-effect of the drugs he has taken. Later, he spots a ghost in the basement and witnesses a possessed Henry to jump off the roof. Eric saves him.

The next day, Eric begins to conduct his assessment of Sarah's mental well-being. Sarah admits her fear of ghosts and believes she can help them move on. She reveals that she knows about Eric's drug problem and confiscates his supply of laudanum. That night, Eric witnesses a seemingly possessed Sarah draw a plan for a new room. He is startled by an entity and flees back to his room. The next day, Sarah shows Eric that she keeps records of people killed by Winchester rifles. It is revealed that Eric had actually been shot and killed by a Winchester rifle before being revived, and he keeps the refurbished bullet with him. Sarah explains how thirteen nails keep spirits sealed in rooms.

I've only seen this movie twice, and I enjoyed it every time, this movie was directed by The Spierig Brothers, and the main actors are Helen Mirren, Jason Clarke and Sarah Snook.

This movie is based from the Winchester Mystery House,

The Winchester Mystery House is a mansion in San Jose, California, that was once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of firearm magnate William Wirt Winchester. Located at 525 South Winchester Blvd. in San Jose, the Queen Anne Style Victorian mansion is renowned for its size, its architectural curiosities, and its lack of any master building plan. It is a designated California historical landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is privately owned and serves as a tourist attraction.
Since its construction in 1884, the property and mansion were claimed by many to be haunted by the ghosts of those killed with Winchester rifles. Under Winchester's day-to-day guidance, its "from-the-ground-up" construction proceeded around the clock, by some accounts, without interruption, until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased. Sarah Winchester's biographer, however, says that Winchester "routinely dismissed workers for months at a time 'to take such rest as I might'" and notes that "this flies in the face of claims by today's Mystery House proprietors that work at the ranch was ceaseless for thirty-eight years.

I find old buildings very interesting and when they make a horror movie out of it, just makes it even better too! my favourite type of horrors are supernatural or paranormal depending on when your preference is, and I do recommend you watching them if you want to.

Today the home is owned by Winchester Investments LLC, a privately held company representing the descendants of John and Mayme Brown. The home retains unique touches that reflect Mrs Winchester's beliefs and her reported preoccupation with warding off malevolent spirits. These spirits are said to have directly inspired her as to the way the house should be built. The number thirteen and spider web motifs, which carried spiritual significance for her, occur throughout the house.

Finding out that houses are still standing now is incredible, and that people live in them or use them still it's amazing to think about and to see and I'm sure it has had many people visiting it and taking photos for research or other reasons.

I feel as though I have rambled on enough, I do hope you are enjoying this series of blogs where I talk about horror movies based on true events or stories!

Hope you enjoyed the read and looking forward to the next blog post during this spooky time of year.

Many thanks
